Can you eat raw cookie dough?

Eating traditional raw cookie dough is not safe because it contains uncooked eggs and flour which can have harmful bacteria and lead to GI upset or food poisoning.

Raw eggs are dangerous because they may be contaminated with salmonella, which can lead to food poisoning or even hospitalization. A lesser known fact is that unbaked flour can also be dangerous to ingest. Like eggs, flour may contain bacteria, which if present are killed during the baking process. To stay safe, you simply need to toast the flour for about 5 minutes to eliminate any risk for harmful bacteria.

How do you make perfect cookie dough?

The perfect cookie dough should be two things… creamy and edible! AKA you need great texture and no raw eggs! As for texture, the perfect cookie dough isn’t too soft or too sticky. If your cookie dough is too soft you may have added too much butter. To fix it, simply add slightly more flour and mix again. If your dough is feeling sticky, the problem may be solved simply by refrigerating the dough for a few hours.
